DTN WEEKLY ROUND UP: The bulk of trade took place late Friday afternoon last
week, but was rather light. Northern dressed sales were marked at $408 to
$410, $1 to $3 higher than the previous week's weighted averages. Southern
live business was reported at $258, $1 lower than the prior week's weighted
averages. Keep in mind that the majority of this trade took place well after
the mandatory cutoff, so it will be interesting to see just how many cattle
actually moved and what the weighted average prices will be when summary
reports are released in a couple of hours. According to Thursday's Daily
Direct Slaughter Cattle Negotiated Purchase Summary reports the weekly
accumulated weighted averages were recorded as: KS $No test($259.47); NE
$408.00($407.22); TX $No test($259.00); IA $408.00($405.82). (the prior
week's weighted averages are listed in parentheses).
The Friday afternoon Daily Direct Slaughter Cattle report lists week-to-date
trade volume totals as: KS 1,073; NE 1,733; TX 547; IA 5,386. These totals
will be extremely different when the weekly summaries come out. According to
the Daily Livestock and Poultry Slaughter Report, Friday's slaughter totaled
100,000 head, 5,000 more than the prior week but 7,000 head below a year ago.
Saturday's kill was estimated at 4,000 head, bringing the weekly total to
537,000 head, 11,000 greater than the previous week, but down 24,000 from
2025. The weekly average for boxed beef cutouts and boxed beef cuts: choice
$396.53(+1.05), select $376.22(+0.75), with an average choice/select spread
of $20.31(+0.30), and a total load count including cuts, trimmings, and
grinds was 461(-02), (Changes from the prior week are listed in parentheses).
For the week ending June 20, 2026, Imported Beef Passed for Entry in the U.S.
totaled 57,884, 97.37% of the previous week and 101.86% of the 4-week
average.
DTN MORNING COMMENTS: It looks to be a typically quiet Monday morning with
both packers and producers checking on inventory and preparing for shortened
week ahead, due to the Independence Day holiday. Bids and asking prices are
not established, and significant trade volume will likely be delayed until
much later in the week. Beef cutouts are expected to be lower with light box
movement.
NOTE: Price and volume information listed on this page is supplied by DTN
subscribers in the interest of general cash market awareness. All cattle
feeding subscribers are encouraged to report sales in a timely fashion, to
compensate for the systematic delays of mandatory reporting. While all
transactions will be posted on an anonymous basis, callers are required to
identify themselves and the location of the actual sales. DTN believes this
data to be accurate but cannot guarantee its specific reliability or whether
it fairly represents the larger cash market.
Feedlots are encouraged to email DTN with any cattle sales at
linda.nellson@dtn.com. All sales will be listed anonymously and organized by
state. A weekly summary of this data will be posted on the Weekly Cattle
Sales Reported to DTN page and will be left up for the entire week for
reference purposes.
