DTN WEEKLY ROUND UP: Business held off until Friday afternoon last week with
Southern live deals marked at $256 to $257, $4 to $5 lower than the prior
week's weighted averages. Northern dressed trade had a range of $405 to $408,
$2 to $5 lower than the previous week's weighted averages. Keep in mind,
these prices came mostly from private sources, as the bulk of sales came in
well after the Mandatory cutoff. According to Thursday's Daily Direct
Slaughter Cattle Negotiated Purchase Summary reports the weekly accumulated
weighted averages were recorded as: KS $No Test($259.68); NE $No
Test($410.06); TX $No Test($260.00); IA $No Test($410.89). (the prior week's
weighted averages are listed in parentheses). Due to business being delayed
until Friday, accumulated weighted averages were not available.
The Friday afternoon Daily Direct Slaughter Cattle report lists week-to-date
trade volume totals as: KS 291; NE 3,789; TX 1,081; IA 6,359. It will be
interesting to see just how many cattle traded when summary reports come out
a little later this morning. According to the Daily Livestock and Poultry
Slaughter Report, Friday's slaughter totaled 105,000 head, 6,000 more than
the prior week and 13,000 less than a year ago. Saturday's kill was estimated
at 14,000 head, bringing the weekly total to 448,000 head, 84,000 below the
previous week, and about even with 2025. The weekly average for boxed beef
cutouts and boxed beef cuts: choice $392.85(+0.20), select $387.09(-2.03),
with an average choice/select spread of $5.67(+2.14) a total load count
including cuts, trimmings, and grinds was 419(-53), (Changes from the prior
week are listed in parentheses).
For the week ending May 23, 2026, Imported Beef Passed for Entry in the U.S.
totaled 56,514, 97.23% of the previous week and 99.88% of the 4-week average.
DTN MORNING COMMENTS: It will likely be a rather quiet Monday in cash cattle
country, as both buyers and sellers are busy taking inventory and preparing
for the week ahead. Bids and asking prices have yet to be established, and
significant trade volume will likely be delayed until later in the week. Beef
cutouts are expected to be lower with light box movement.
NOTE: Price and volume information listed on this page is supplied by DTN
subscribers in the interest of general cash market awareness. All cattle
feeding subscribers are encouraged to report sales in a timely fashion, to
compensate for the systematic delays of mandatory reporting. While all
transactions will be posted on an anonymous basis, callers are required to
identify themselves and the location of the actual sales. DTN believes this
data to be accurate but cannot guarantee its specific reliability or whether
it fairly represents the larger cash market.
Feedlots are encouraged to email DTN with any cattle sales at
linda.nellson@dtn.com. All sales will be listed anonymously and organized by
state. A weekly summary of this data will be posted on the Weekly Cattle
Sales Reported to DTN page and will be left up for the entire week for
reference purposes.
